Jack Harlan wins election as Knox County Sheriff

Knox County will have a new Sheriff next month in Jack Harlan. The Republican came out ahead of his Democratic opponent James Robertson in Tuesday's General Election. Harlan received about 58 percent of the county vote, or won by about 3,000 votes. Harlan is a retired U.S. Army First Sergeant, and current detective and K9 handler with Knox County. Harlan started as a Knox County deputy in 2016 but also was the East Galesburg Police Chief. He will succeed Democrat David Clague who decided not to seek another term after 15 years. Harlan is set to take his oath of office next month. In other Sheriff races Republican Nicholas Petitgout was elected to another term in McDonough County, Steven Sloan won another term in Stark County and Jon Webb won as a Republican in Fulton County. ....

Election 2022: Several important races on the national, state, and local levels

It is election day across the country and voters will go to the polls for races on the national, state, and local levels. Democratic Governor JB Pritzker is running for re-election against Republican State Senator Darren Bailey and Libertarian candidate Scott Schluter. Democratic Attorney General Kwame Raoul is running for re-election against Republican attorney Thomas Devore while Democratic Treasurer Mike Frerichs hopes to beat Republican Representative Tom Demmer and be re-elected and Comptroller Susana Mendoza hopes to win re-election against Republican Shannon Teresi. After today, Illinois will have its first new Secretary of State in 24 years. Jesse White is not seeking another and voters will have to choose between Republican Representative Dan Brady, Democratic mayor Rockford Alexi Giannoulias – a former Treasurer in Illinois, or Libertatiran Jon Stewart. State's Attorneys lawsuits challenging SAFE-T Act combined

The Illinois Supreme Court on Monday combined lawsuits filed by more than half of Illinois state's attorneys, including Knox County's, challenging the legality of the SAFE-T Act. The sweeping criminal justice reform package is set to take effect on Jan. 1 of 2023. Knox County State's Attorney Jeremy Karlin says the court consolidated the state's attorneys' cases and ordered the suit in Kankakee County to serve as the lead case. Motions for summary judgment must be filed no later than next week. Karlin promises that his office will continue to monitor this litigation as well as ongoing negotiations with legislators. He promises that no matter the result of the litigation or negotiations the SA office and all law enforcement in Knox County are prepared for the January 1st effective date of the SAFE-T Act.
