Bahamian long distance runner O’Neil Williams will likely have one final shot to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games in the men’s marathon on time, and he’s prepared to take full advantage of it.
Williams, who had to pull up in the Marathon Izmir 2021 in Izmir, Turkey, last week Sunday, as he was bothered by Achilles tendonitis, said his recovery efforts have been progressive, and he feels he’ll be ready to go in about a month’s time. He’s registered for the 19th running of the Brescia Art Marathon, set for May 30, 2021, in Brescia, Italy. The qualifying deadline for the Olympics for the men’s marathon is a day later – May 31, 2021. ....

Faced with serious financial restraints, and a nagging Achilles injury, Bahamian long distance runner O’Neil Williams might have encountered one too many hurdles in his attempt to qualify for the Tokyo Olympic Games in the men’s marathon.
The now 38-year-old Olympic hopeful was forced to pull up in the Marathon Izmir 2021 10K (10-kilometer) Virtual Run in Izmir, Turkey, on Sunday, as he was bothered by Achilles tendonitis that he suffered while training in Iten, Kenya. Williams has been in Kenya training for the past 10 years in hopes of becoming the first Bahamian to ever qualify for the Olympics, or any world championships event, in marathon running. He is the lone marathon runner in The Bahamas today. ....

CALGARY - The story of why the Canadian women s curling championship is named the Tournament of Hearts starts over 40 years ago with sisters drinking wine.
Robin Wilson and sister Dawn Knowles had just won a second Canadian championship with B.C. skip Lindsay Sparkes in 1979.
That tournament was without a title sponsor after seven years as the tobacco-backed MacDonald Lassies.
Wilson, the only female manager at Scott Paper, where she handled the diaper and feminine product line, successfully pitched sponsoring the women s championship to company president Bob Stewart. ....
