May 8, 2021 An SUV went left of center Friday on Market Street in Steubenville, clipping another car before striking a bench and then crashing into the War Memorial monument in front of the Jefferson County Courthouse, City Police reported. Officers said the driver, Brittany Devore, 29, 226 McClister Ave., Mingo Junction, was taken by Steubenville Fire EMS to the hospital for evaluation. Devore was driving a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer, police said. The accident remains under investigation. To the editor: I am writing in response to the letter “Questions about moving on” that appeared on Jan. 10. As I read it, I was outraged. I was shocked that someone could write to the newspaper and say whatever was on their mind. But I remembered, we the people of the United States have the right to freedom of speech, the Constitution guarantees that right and everyone is entitled to believe how they choose. After rereading the letter, I have a response. First, I am a Black woman who happens to be from one of the 70 percent fatherless Black homes that was referenced. I will not check to s...
