Can boycott hearings, they can boycott votes. it won t derail it altogether, but it could slow them down. the ranking member on the senate judiciary committee chuck grassley indicated he has no appetite for that. of course, republicans are going to take their lead from the minority leader mitch mcconnell who is well versed in how to navigate the supreme court battles. and republicans right now aren t in a very good position to take back the midterms. he likely will advise his caucus to do their due diligence to push back where they can. republicans have to weigh how far they want to take this, how bitter they want this to become, especially with such a historic nominee. and as you noted, several republicans have already voted for her to join the appellate court. so it would be quite the switch aradio. eva mckend from capitol hill, thank you so much. let s talk to cnn political ....
President biden made history on friday by nominating judge ketanji brown jackson as his supreme court pick. if confirmed, judge jackson will be the first black woman to sit on the nation s highest court. she s currently on d.c. s federal appellate court and she s been considered the front-runner for the vacancy since justice stephen breyer announced his retirement. judge jackson said she hopes to inspire others. if i m fortunate enough to be confirmed as the next associate justice of the supreme court of the united states, i can only hope that my life and career, my love of this country and the constitution and my commitment to upholding the rule of law and the sacred principles upon which this great nation was founded will inspire future generations of americans. here to discuss this historic ....
Biden to give him a win? because this would be a win in his column. well, that s right. i mean, look, clearly the biden team, and they did a really good job of teeing this up. i think they re going to signal to the senators, look, this is going to happen anyway. you could either try to score points and then lose or quietly move on to something else and then lose. i don t know that they have the votes. it s go to be very narrow, divided senate, of course. but the reality is they already have such an ideological imbalance on the court. that if anybody who wants to make an argument for it s a conservative court, they ve already got one. so, it s not necessarily a fight that they need to throw a lot of resources into. again, we ll see, you know, there are candidates who want to be president of the united states, senator hawley, senator cruz, they re going to try to showboat. senator graham likes to be on ....
Clear that s what he plans to do. while that s happening, though, i think a different conversation can break out if the democrats are wise about it which is to emphasize the diversity, not just gender and race, but the diversity of legal experience that jackson would bring to the bench. meaning she s one of the few who has actually ever represented clients. who actually was a lawyer to help in a criminal case. one of two, along with sotomayor is also a local court judge that has heard cases. we have that represented on the supreme court now, and while the politicians will play games, those who want to aptly move the conversation forward will try 0 shift the conversation away from what democrats want and republicans more and more importantly what the court and country needs. those may be the conversations they have, errol, but is anybody ready who opposes ....
