Intel Fights AMD With AI, IPC Boost In Rocket Lake Desktop CPUs The new 11th-generation Intel Core S-Series processors only go up to eight cores due to the limitations of a new 14-nanometer architecture, but the chipmaker says it’s making up for a lack of more cores with new AI features as well as a 19 percent increase in instructions per clock. By Dylan Martin March 16, 2021, 12:37 PM EDT The new 11th-generation Intel Core S-Series desktop CPUs are coming out with a new, unusual architecture that cuts back on the maximum core count while bringing a boost i...

A sideways look at the enterprise fall out from the musical chairs played by defecting VMware execs Read later Summary: First VMware’s COO resigned to take up the role of CEO at Nutanix, rapidly followed by a lawsuit for breach of contract and fiduciary duty; then the CEO left to join Intel as its new boss. The bigger questions in both cases are the same – what might be the eventual result? (Pixabay) Recent weeks have seen two ‘people’ stories emerge from VMware, both highlighting subtle, but deeply significant changes that are occuring across the IT vendor community right now. Intel is using the virtual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2021 to officially unveil next-generation CPUs. It's no secret that desktop 11th Gen Core is around the corner. Codenamed Rocket Lake, it represents the first major architecture revamp since 2015. Built using the Cypress Cove CPU architecture and Xe GPU, there's much to be excited about in early 2021. During a livestream today, Intel provided some very high-level details on what to expect from Rocket Lake-S. Offering up to 19 per cent instructions-per-clock (IPC) CPU improvement generation over generation, along with higher frequenc...

The new branding of Intel's upcoming 500 series chipset has leaked out courtesy of Videocardzand Rocket Lake's flagship processor has broken through the 700 single core score barrier on CPUZ. It also defeated AMD's Zen 3 in benchmarks we covered a few days ago. Intel Core i9-11900K Rocket Lake CPU sets ne...

It’s all about learning experiences Joseph Martins Wed 16 Dec 2020 // 11:10 UTC Share Copy Sponsored Mention AI hardware and you might immediately envision a data centre with racks of specialised servers, with CPUs packing tens of cores that are tuned to handle AI and machine learning, supplemented with dedicated silicon such as GPUs to handle specific tasks. You’d also imagine acres of memory and hectares of storage, with a superfast interconnect holding it all together. This may all seem a far cry from what you have running in your laptop. Except that it really i...
