(AP) - Thomas Davis and Greg Olsen, two beloved NFL players who developed into iconic figures in the Charlotte community, officially retired together on Thursday as members of the Carolina Panthers. Davis and Olsen signed one-day contracts with Carolina and were honored jointly during a 90-minute virtual ceremony at Bank of America Stadium that was broadcast live on the team’s website. “For the people here in Carolina, you guys are family and I’m glad you guys came back home today,” Panthers owner David Tepper said.

(WBTV) - Thomas Davis, one of the Carolina Panthers’ greatest players who spent 14 seasons with the team, says he is retiring at the end of the season, ending a 16-year NFL career. Davis, often referred to as “TD” is at or near the top of many different all-time statistical categories for the franchise. Davis left the team as the Panthers’ all-time tackles leader with 1,258. He had seven 100-tackle campaigns.

Davis, 37, played 14 seasons with the Panthers from 2005 to 2018. He spent the following season in Los Angeles with the Chargers. The 16-year NFL veteran joined the Washington Football Team this season, reuniting with former Panthers head coach Ron Rivera. Davis said Sunday’s final regular-season game against the Philadelphia Eagles will be his last. A win on Sunday can extend the season into the playoffs.
