Jim Knowles has made big strides with the Cowboys’ defense the past three seasons, and it’s evident in the type of recruits considering Oklahoma State. Class of 2022 four-star linebacker Jaron Willis included OSU in his top 10 Saturday along with LSU, Florida, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Nebraska, Florida State, Ole Miss, Auburn and South Carolina. Who Is He? Willis is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound outside linebacker from Lee County High School in Leesburg, Georgia. Although he is listed as an outside backer, he is one of those new-aged defenders that Knowles has been able to develop. He can also play safety, come off the edge and there is even some film of him essentially playing a nickel corner. ....
Signing day surprises are a rarity for Oklahoma State, and when they happen, they typically spell bad news. But on Wednesday, OSU got news of the pleasant variety with word that star Class of 2022 reruit De’Kelvion Beamon one of the top talents in Louisiana has reclassified to 2021 and signed with Oklahoma State. The reclass gives OSU another addition in its secondary in the recruiting cycle, and bolsters a unit that had been lacking at least one more body. OSU made runs at other prospects in the class to fill out safety and corner this cycle, but Beamon’s addition fills a need while also locking up one of the best 2022 talents. (Beamon committed to OSU in January, but he was widely expected to get more offers as a senior.) ....
With a few late moves, the Cowboys have climbed up to third in the Big 12 in 2021 recruiting rankings. Oklahoma State signed 21 prospects on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period. Shortly after all the letters of intent came in, Mike Gundy met with reporters via Zoom to discuss his class. Here is what he said. Opening Statement “It’s good to get it in, get them all tucked away. We got exactly what we wanted. Seven Oklahoma kids, nine Texas. Huge, huge class for midterm. Bringing players in early is getting very popular. It’s kind of what we’ve done here for the years past. We would like to concentrate on Oklahoma and Texas and surrounding states. This will put us at the number of 85, which is what we need to be at as we move forward through the summer.” ....
