June 4, 2021 at 1:23 pm by Atmika Iyer and Holly Rusch Following the Isla Vista Recreation & Park Districtâs decision to transition Peopleâs Park back to its recreational capacity â which would subsequently force houseless residents currently living there to leave the park â the non-profit, volunteer organization Food Not Bombs organized a community gathering around the encampment beginning June 1 to support the houseless residents. Food not Bombs Isla Vista and community members gathered on June 1 at People’s Park. Food not Bombs was serving food at the event. April 16, 2021 at 2:20 pm by Atmika Iyer At its March 25 meeting, the Isla Vista Recreation & Park District board of directors voted to reintroduce a proposal to return Peopleâs Park, the only remaining park in Isla Vista available for houseless residents to legally reside in, back to its recreational capacity. All houseless residents would have to relocate as a result. After being offered People’s Park as a relocation space when IVRPD cleared out Anisq’Oyo’ Park, houseless residents face the possibility of another relocation.
