Cancellations yesterday. the delay number, though, is the really big one. 8,800 flights delayed yesterday. that s a third of all flights in the u.s. arriving on average, according to flight aware, about an hour and ten minutes late. the worst airports and this is really key atlanta was the worst for cancellations yesterday laguardia and newark, new jersey, charlotte. the big headline is atlanta because that is the world s busiest airport. it s also the worldwide headquarters for delta airlines which is now apologizing to its customers, saying it s working to get its schedule back on track after a delayed about 1,300 flights yesterday. a third of all of its flights scheduled. so, we will see as the day develops here. the faa warning not only of that ground stop in new england, but also we re going to see it says in florida. and miami n orlando, palm beach, ft. lauderdale and we could see ....

[ laughter ] we are looking at 1,700 flights canceled yesterday, and about 10,000 flights delayed. here is the big superlative, sara, that number, the delay number is the most flight delays that we have seen all summer. 40% of all flights delayed just yesterday. this is a huge problem, and it is happening over and over again, and that a heat story as well, and like united scott kirby said it is thermodynamics 101, and when the hot air rises, it is thunderstorms, and it is coming down on major hubs. new york hit especially hard yesterday. and new york with a big hub for american airline, and laguardia, big hub there as well. ....
Brianna. think about where we were a week ago when airlines in the u.s. cancelled 2,200 flights. today they ve only cancelled 98. just checked flight aware. the delay number keeps going up, cancellations not going up all that fast. even yesterday, airlines in the u.s. cancelled 600 flights in the u.s. when storms hit the east coast. things can change relatively quickly. and the faa is warning of ground stops for later today for flights going into new york, d.c., baltimore, charlotte, atlanta, all the way down to tampa and miami. so, the day is still relatively young. the good news is, though, we have turned the page from the big cancellations of last week. i want you to listen to transportation secretary pete buttigieg, who says that things are getting back on track. we re watching more severe potential for severe weather. that s what touched off all of these problems about a week ago. ....
