'Mammoth' $15k fine after petrol-stealing dad zooms through red light

AN IPSWICH father narrowly dodged jail but has copped a whopping $14,000 fine after speeding through red lights to avoid police.
Barry Ernest Adams, 34, appeared for sentencing in Ipswich District Court, after pleading guilty to 11 charges, including two of evading police and five of stealing.
Ipswich District Court heard the father-of-two drove off with more than $600 worth of petrol across multiple instances, filling up but leaving petrol stations without paying.
Adams stole the petrol on five dates between December 26, 2019 and March 3, 2020.
The court heard police spotted Barry driving on May 21, 2020 and tried to pull him over. ....

Police dog puts bite on alleged Woolies raider

A MAN bitten by a police dog was receiving treatment at Ipswich Hospital on Tuesday after he and three others were allegedly found in long grass following a break-in at a Woolworths supermarket.
The cases against the four accused were mentioned at Ipswich Magistrates Court when two of them made bail applications.
Jaymes Anthony Alistair Daly, 26, from Loganlea; Stevan Joshua Jeffery Munich, 28, from Springfield; Michael John Sullivan, 27, from Springfield; and William James Moore, 27, from Logan Central, are charged with one count each of break and enter at Woolworths in Collingwood Park on Monday, May 3; attempted break and enter at Woolworths in Fernvale on May 3; receiving tainted property (cigarettes and mobile phones); unlawful use of a motor vehicle; and obstructing police. ....

Teen in hot water after police catch him driving without licence

A TEEN driver who did not hold a licence has been told to stay off the road and stick to the back seat of any car he travels in.
The driver had just picked up an old hot water system when he came under police scrutiny.
Joel Carr, 18, from Brassall pleaded guilty in Ipswich Magistrates Court to driving even though he has never held a licence at Sumner on March 14.
Prosecutor Senior Constable Bridie O Shea said a police patrol intercepted Carr driving along Sumner Road.
There had been issues with his tyres and Carr was unable to produce a driver s licence. ....

Labrador thief had asked owner to sell

WHEN a neighbour s friendly chocolate brown labrador wandered into the yard, Daniel Myers decided he would claim it as his own.
By coincidence, Myers was moving out of his rented house that day, and he took the dog with him.
Several days later the worried owner was shown photographs posted on a social media site and recognised her missing dog.
Police were contacted and when officers went to Myers new house the labrador was found there too, an Ipswich court heard this week.
Going before Ipswich Magistrates Court for sentence Daniel John Myers, 32, of Raceview, pleaded guilty to stealing the labrador at Redbank Plains between January 8 and January 21. ....
