ROCKFORD — Two Rockford men wanted on warrants were taken into custody Tuesday following a traffic stop on the city’s southeast side, police said. Officers pulled over a vehicle in the area of South Alpine Road and Harrison Avenue and recovered cocaine and a loaded handgun. Deondre Friar, 26, was charged with armed violence, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver. Friar was also wanted on warrants for attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and an Illinois Department of Corrections parole hold warrant.
