The Marshall County Commissioners questioned Sheriff’s Deputy Neal Wallace on why Sheriff Matt Hassel was not at their meeting on Monday to request a pre-pay for Oliver Ford Lincoln to replace two patrol vehicles that were totaled in two separate accidents. Wallace said he was out of town.
Wallace said one vehicle was totaled when a sheriff’s deputy was involved in a car-deer accident and the second was a crash with a UTV on Flat Lake Road.
Commissioner Kevin Overmyer asked what the amount of the pre-pay request was and Wallace did not have that information. He did have a check from the Sheriff, using the commissary funds to cover the remainder of the cost which was $11,447.
Tuesday shortly after noon the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle accident at US 31 and south Michigan Road in the southbound lanes with the caller stating there was entrapment.
As Deputy Neal Wallace arrived on the scene Midflight was requested to respond to the Plymouth Airport.
During the investigation into the crash it was stated in the report that 68 year old Laura Melton of Scottsboro, Alabama driving the Hyundai Sonata was traveling southbound in the passing lane of US 31.
The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox identified as 71 year old Stephen Trago of Plymouth was exiting Michigan Road traveling eastbound across the south lanes of US 31 to travel northbound on US 31 when he failed to yield to Melton’s oncoming vehicle.
