Britons lost out on an estimated £6.9bn in interest from savings accounts last year, according to new research from a challenger bank.
The three best savings rates in the UK are all regular saver deals. Nationwide's newest regular saver pays 8%, First Direct pays 7% and Lloyds Bank 6.25%.
The Bank of England increased the base interest rate to five percent this week and several providers have since boosted the rates on their fixed rate accounts and other products.
Deposits in savings accounts hit £1 trillion for the first time in September 2022
Over £300 billion worth of savings is still sitting in accounts offering a rate of 0.1% or less, according to research released by Paragon Bank and CACI, a data company, on Wednesday.
