A Brooklyn native with more than 25 years of planning experience has been nominated to serve as the next director of Detroit’s Planning & Development Department.
Mayor Mike Duggan announced Wednesday that he has selected Antoine Bryant to serve in the post following a nationwide search. The Detroit City Council is expected to vote on the nomination Tuesday.
Bryant previously served as business development and project manager for architecture firm Moody Nolan in Houston, where he worked on projects in historic African-American neighborhoods. The city notes that Bryan s career focus has been the development and social empowerment of underserved communities.

DETROIT Fiat Chrysler is contributing $400,000 to a Detroit neighborhood fund as part of a community benefits agreement tied to its new assembly plant on the city’s east side, the automaker said Monday.
The money will fund improvement projects in Detroit’s Chandler Park, West End and Riverbend neighborhoods. Another $400,000 will be contributed in 2021, according to Fiat Chrysler.
Community members and Detroit’s Planning & Development Department determine which projects receive funding. The city put together land for the plant. The community benefits agreement calls for Fiat Chrysler to invest in the surrounding neighborhoods, jobs training and education.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV on Monday contributed nearly $700,000 for investments into three east-side Detroit neighborhoods as a part of its community benefits commitments.
The funds will contribute to environmental education and increased stormwater management at Chandler Park and support the city s Impact Neighborhood Fund that will support public projects in the Chandler Park, East Canfield and Riverbend neighborhoods. The city will work with residents to determine what those projects should be. So often the east side has been forgotten, but not today, City Councilman Andre Spivey said during a news conference. We want this to be a destination. We want this to be a place where people can grow and live and work.
