Man arrested for capital murder following shooting on 74th Street in B'ham
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed the man was pronounced dead in the 300 block of 74th Street North in Birmingham at 12:40 a.m. on Monday.

Police on Monday announced the arrest of 25-year-old Jamarian Carpenter. He is charged in the March 20 slaying of Devarta Dedre Thomas.Carpenter is charged with capital murder because authorities believe Thomas was inside of a vehicle when he was fatally shot.

Authorities ID 2 men killed in separate Birmingham shootings on Monday; 3rd man slain overnight
Devarta Dedre Thomas, 30, was killed in Monday’s predawn hours in the 300 block of 74th Street North, and James Lee Washington, 29, was killed later in the day in the 300 block of First Avenue North, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
