During the election last round along with my team we went to schools to read, speak to immigrant parents, and their schools and reach over 1000 chinese speaking parents to listen to their opinions about the school. As you know, San Francisco is a city made of many immigrants. Its not that parents do not want to participate in voting, there are one too many barriers that exist for them like language and cultural barriers. In this atmosphere today, there are many reasons impacting their decision. Our outreach effort is not just on educating and informing people of their rights to participate for election, but also recognize that there are many ways to participate in the community and encouraging them to do so. For some context why that is, back in 2021 i wrote the initial draft proclamation that designating august as transgender History Month. I was inspired by the cafeteria riots on an august 9 in 1966. We dont know exactly what day it happened but we do know that it happened in august. I asked myself, why is it that we dont know what day it happened . It is monumental history. Why dont we know .
