The Simon Konover Co. is seeking government incentives for its proposed $38.5 million, 130-unit apartment development near the Connecticut River in East Hartford. Simon Konover is seeking an eight-year tax break worth an estimated $2.1 million, as well as a $7.7 million loan from the Capital Region Development Authority, according to a prospective financing outline shared with East Hartford’s Town Council ahead of its Tuesday meeting. The document assumes that $2 million of that loan could be written off if certain development targets are met.

East Hartford's Redevelopment Agency voted unanimously Thursday night to recommend the Town Council acquire two derelict Silver Lane properties by eminent domain. The parcels, 794-810 Silver Lane and 818-850 Silver Lane, are part of the Silver Lane Plaza, a shopping center with a long history of blight and deteriorating conditions. Town officials have expressed interest in acquiring Silver Lane Plaza, both through good-faith negotiation and by eminent domain, as a part of efforts to revitalize the Silver Lane corridor.
The town of East Hartford is one step closer to purchasing the troubled Church Corners Inn on Main Street, which has been costing the town money and bringing negative attention to downtown. On Tuesday, the Town Council unanimously gave Mayor Mike Walsh the go-ahead to sign an agreement to purchase the property at 860 Main St. for $950,000. “This building is the single-most frequent destination for police service calls in town,” council member Angie Parkinson said. “Crime originating in or around this building is destabilizing this important section of Main Street.”
