A microbrewery in Georgia offers Revival Lager, a beer made from recycled wastewater, as part of “potable reuse” efforts for water conservation.

The new addition, called Revival Lager, stands apart from nearly every other beer on tap in the U.S. Fox City’s menu calls it a “light, crisp, eco-friendly lager made from highly repurposed and recycled water.” This is a delicate way of saying that it’s made from treated sewage.

U of I researchers find recycled wastewater is as clean, if not cleaner, than the surface-water sources that supply many cities. Will that knowledge be enough to make brews like this palatable to consumers?
