Starting on Saturday, the Portal Creek wildfire grew to 1.7 hectares as two helicopter crews and three ground crews worked to contain it. 

Provincial officials announced Saturday that the state of emergency triggered by wildfires in Alberta will end just before midnight. The state of emergency was put into effect on May 6 when out-of-control wildfires forced thousands of residents across the province from their homes.

Residents of the northern community of Town of Rainbow Lake were given the green-light to return home on Friday. It has been nearly a month since the community of about 700 people was given the order to leave.
