A daughter of Good Magic consigned by Tom McCrocklin, Agent, sped a quarter in :20 3/5 to post the session’s fastest time at the distance. The chestnut filly, Hip 1112, is out of the Tiznow mare Tiz Heavenly, a daughter of graded stakes-winning OBS graduate Tasha’s Miracle.
The current crop of sires with their first runners at the racecourse this year now include five freshmen sires located in Kentucky or Florida who have already been represented by a stakes winner: Justify (by Scat Daddy), Sharp Azteca (Freud), Good Magic (Curlin), Girvin (Tale of Ekati), and Free Drop Billy (Union Rags).
Ready-made racehorses were in demand Monday at the July Selected Horses of All Ages sale held at Fasig-Tipton’s Newtown Paddocks in Lexington, Ky. With more horses offered and sold than any of the sale’s other nine editions, Monday’s trade set sale records for gross and median.
Girvin is off to a quick start at stud with his first crop of 2-year-olds this year, siring five winners from eight runners to date. These include the undefeated Devious Dame, who captured the Astoria Stakes at Belmont on June 9 in a 5 ¼ length romp.
The 2-year-old stakes at Belmont Park on Thursday were captured by Devious Dame (Astoria) and Two Of A Kind (Tremont).
