Saline County's Rolling Hills Zoo announces death of Amur leopard
The Salina Journal Rolling Hills Zoo announced Sunday that Darius, an 18-year-old male Amur leopard, has died. The zoo said Darius has been treated for renal failure over the past year, with his kidney function declining. Over the last week, Rolling Hills said, blood work indicated he was in Stage 4 kidney failure. According to the zoo, kidney failure is common as part of the aging process for big cats and is not reversible. The leopard was humanely euthanized after he became more lethargic and stopped eating.
