CAIRO — A 45-year-old pedestrian died over the weekend after being hit by a Whigham motorist.
The Cairo Police Department says Cairo resident Betty Rachel Hurst died Saturday after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 84.
Police say Whigham resident Jacquelyn Hines was traveling eastbound on Highway 84 when she struck Hurst. Hines, 29, told police she saw Hurst standing in the roadway but did not have enough time to react.
The crash occurred at around 6:30 a.m. Saturday on Highway 84 East and Third Avenue Northeast.
Hines is not currently facing charges, though the police department is continuing to investigate the crash. Lt. Dewayne Pearson, the lead investigator on the case, said there are no pending charges against Hines as of early Monday afternoon.
