From the Archives: Going Home: A life ends in East County, but dream of work in U.S. endures
Alejandro Ramos made his final trip home inside a coffin. In early 1997 Ramos was one of 14 people who died after exposure to the freezing weather in East County after crossing illegally into the U.S. A reporter and a photographer followed Ramos' coffin on his final trip home to Ignacio Ramirez, a coastal community in Chiapas, Mexico.
