Judge Daniel Thulare is expected to hand down judgment in the reopened inquest of Haron at the Western Cape High Court on 9 October.
The reopened inquest, which continues in the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday, is to get to the truth on circumstances around the late Islamic scholar’s death in detention in 1969, initially stated to be an 'accidental fall' down a flight of stairs.
Judge Daniel Thulare, the State and family representatives will visit the police stations where Imam Haron was held before his death in 1969.
‘I think we’ve come to this point as a country without instilling a culture of accountability and hopefully by dealing with these cases we can instil a culture of accountability,’ said Nkosinathi Biko in court.
