The mode s transponder gives more information but there's a time delay so we really don't know what that was -- what that ground speed was -- or that air speed on the radar was all about. there's a difference like you indicated, between what the airplane senses and the ground speed. so it's all subject to possible dis discrepancies. the climb seems extraordinary. they could have gone through a thunderstorm that causes a lot of updrafts in addition to downdrafts. so weather does seem to be related but, once again, we can't rule out anything. and i think it's important to determine flight breaku...
