The two candidates fighting for the fourth district seat on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors participated in a candidate forum Monday in Kensington.

Gustavo Dallarda, director of Caltrans District 11, explains some of the engineering behind freeways and makes the case that they provide an efficient means of travel compared to surface roads. He acknowledges the need to reduce vehicle travel, but says infrastructure doesn't get built overnight and that our transition away from cars and freeways has to be slow and gradual.

West Columbia, SC, voters will head to the polls to decide whether to elect Mayor Tem Miles or challenger Melissa Sprouse Brown, who offer contrasting ideas for the rapidly growing city across the Congaree River from the Palmetto state's capital. Five districts will also feature competitive races for council in the Lexington County community.
