Pender Harbour residents to challenge co-management decision based on DRIPA
SeaWolf Diving, PHARA and Ocean Legacy Foundation pulled together to retrieve and recycle more than 2,500 pounds of materials from the water
A new dock management plan for areas in the shíshálh Nation's traditionally territory is facing backlash from some Sunshine Coast residents.
'We extend our sympathies to those affected by the threats and we affirm our support to all members of shíshálh Nation,' reads a joint statement from the Minister of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship Nathan Cullen, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation Murray Rankin and lhe hiwus yalxwemult (Chief Lenora Joe).
'Our objections are directed at the plan itself, which is rationalized with – to our estimation – dodgy engineering and environmental studies, is distressingly unclear, and which threatens our water-based industries and residents’ ability to get to their water-access homes. Secondary industries will be diminished, property values will plummet, and our struggling economy will be further gutted.'
