The EU has committed €1.25bn to multiple Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions to support roughly 10,000 researchers in their various projects.

Led by the UPC's Centre for Sensors, Instruments and Systems Development, an international consortium of universities, hospitals and companies is developing new technologies based on light and AI to improve the diagnosis of several diseases.

Almost three years into Horizon Europe, KU Leuven is the top grant recipient among higher education institutions in the largest EU framework programme for research and innovation to date. Netting more than €170 million for 284 projects, the University currently takes the lead in both the amount of funding and the number of grant agreements signed. 

Funding doctoral training can be a driving force for innovation, especially if it involves industry, according to a new European Commission study. This shows that when companies and organisations with a track record of innovation take part in PhD training funded by the EU’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), more patents and other innovation outputs are generated.
