The end of my second term. doing it in the first term would cause, i believe, a dramatic impact on the economy. too dramatic. and therefore the steps i put in place, and we put together a plan that lays out how we get to a balanced budget within eight to ten years. they haven t put out that plan, but i do like that, a dramatic impact on the economy. i agree, governor, it would. what s interesting here, though, it would be one thing if romney were just a keynesian. republicans have a long history of being keynesians. in 2008, president george w. bush pushed and signed the economic stimulus act of 2008. it was literally called the stimulus act. and it had a lot of republicans on it and republican president behind it and you see mitch mcconnell and john boehner behind him there. but since obama took office, republicans have changed their mind on the idea that government spending can create jobs. and when you ask mitt romney if he agrees with them, he does. he says it can t work. gover ....

Fundamentals in america are changing in terms of who can get employment and what skills are needed an then when the housing bubble collapsed it was obvious a lot of people had borrowed against their houses so they couldn t survive either and that s what s been created if you will by the housing bubble. the world is changing. we have to open our borders to immigrants. we cannot let companies and industries and universities overseas start growing faster than we are and that s, in fact, what s happening. we have to solve the infrastructure problem. congress looks at infrastructure as a jobs program but it doesn t create jobs. i don t know very many office workers who are unemployed who could go to work on a construction site. get serious. different skill sets and physical requirements and that sort of thing. we need infrastructure for the future. we don t we have the worst air traffic system, most congested in the world. 15 best sea ports in the best, zero in the united states, six in c ....

Defense cuts, strengthen our military, and create over 450,000 new jobs for ohio. i m mitt romney and i approve this message. we should mention that the ad, like many of romney s ads, is disingenuous nonsense. the defense cuts he criticizes are not president obama s, they re the ones in the sequestration we were speaking of earlier agreed to by democrats and republicans. also, i have to note that the implicit idea here is that, you know, government can create jobs as long as every dollar spent is spent on defense. spend it on anything else, doesn t create jobs. if you spend it on defense it does create jobs. i can think of no coherent economic theory that would suggest why that s the case but i digress. the bigger question that will be central to the campaign over the next two months is this. will the ad make any difference whatsoever? the answer according to a growing body of research is no. if tomorrow morning you were to wake up and find yourself a candidate for political office ....

There are some fun things to unpack in what john boehner said. first, boehner sounds like he believes democrats are willing to go off the cliff, as i have been urging them to do, since that is the only way to bring republicans to the negotiating table quickly and get any kind of reasonable outcome. boehner s use of the phrase tank our economy, is also important, because he s accepting cbo s description of what would happen. boehner is admitting that the spending cuts that will be triggered on january 1st, unless congress negotiates some other agreement, will help tank the economy, along with an increase in the income tax rates. but, remember that republican orthodoxy now, which is to say the republican lie now, the republican economic insanity now is that government spending does not affect jobs in any way. doesn t create jobs. but there s boehner saying that cuts in government spending will ....
