At the interbank forex market, the rupee opened higher at 72.96 and touched the day's high of 72.93 against the greenback before shedding some gains towards the fag-end of the session.
On Tuesday, the rupee had settled at 73.17 against the American currency.
At the interbank forex market, the domestic unit opened at 73.18 against the US dollar, registering a fall of 3 paise over its previous close.
Traders said rupee was trading on a stronger note.
