A Maui man accused of harassing an adolescent humpback whale and a pod of dolphins in March in Kealakekua Bay on Hawaiʻi Island pleaded not guilty Thursday morning in Kona District Court and has requested a trial.
This week, “Dolphin Dave” will appear in Kona District Court this week for a hearing regarding a criminal citation for harassing wildlife.
“All I want to do, honestly, is to make travelers accountable and have the capacity to help pay for the impact that they have," one Hawaii lawmaker said.
Authorities used a drone to help gather video and photographic evidence and to publicize an enforcement action that made state and national news.
