Town caretaker-manager Bryan Klug felt the Blues squad couldn’t have given him any more during the 2-2 home draw with Middlesbrough in his final game and throughout his four-game tenure as temporary boss.
Conor Chaplin, Jeremy Sarmiento and Omari Hutchinson were on target as Town made it four wins out of four by beating Birmingham City 3-1 at Portman Road. Chaplin gave the Blues the lead with a deft flick from a Sam Morsy shot in the 31st minute as the home side dominated the first half, but Jordan James levelled for the visitors in first-half injury time and Town had to wait until the 81st minute to go back in front via Sarmiento from an Axel Tuanzebe cutback, then Hutchinson sealed a thoroughly deserved victory with his second injury time goal in two games.
Town returned to the top of the Championship after the Blues came from a goal down to win 2-1 at Watford, skipper Sam Morsy netting the winner 10 minutes from time. Yaser Asprilla gave Watford the lead in the 12th minute but George Hirst levelled for the Blues on 24 before Morsy seized on an error by Hornets captain Wesley Hoedt to claim all three points and climb above Leicester City, who aren’t in action until tomorrow, and move 10 ahead of Leeds in third following their 1-0 defeat at Sunderland.
Conor Chaplin scored twice as Town beat Peterborough United 2-1, only their second ever victory over Posh at Portman Road. Chaplin’s flicked header gave the Blues the lead on 21 but Frankie Kent levelled for the visitors 10 minutes later, however, Chaplin won it with his 10th of the season in the 58th minute to send the Blues to the top of League One.
