Donnell Gideon challenged his conviction for deadly shooting in 2004
Gideon received a 27-year prison term after a jury found him guilty of aggravated manslaughter, aggravated assault and other crimes. The prosecution alleged Gideon was one of three men who took part in a late-night shooting that killed 60-year-old Joseph Fields, a father of three, and wounded three others in July 2004. Jurors heard a recorded statement from Gideon, who told investigators the three men drove around the Fairview neighborhood near midnight, looking for a man with whom he’d fought hours earlier.
