An initial investigation in the most recent fire points to a scooter battery that "catastrophically failed."
“The initial investigation points to lithium-ion batteries in an electric scooter that catastrophically failed,” Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire said on social media.
Smoke clouds could be seen from around the downtown area, and witnesses reported a loud bang. As of 1:40 p.m., the fire has been put out.
Three buildings in the 300 block of Main Street were destroyed in the 2019 blaze.
Randy Ryba, a Regina Fire Marshal, said the fire was put out early Tuesday morning, and firefighters will be on the scene for the rest of the week.
