Tech giant Meta fined with record $1.3 billion by European privacy regulators for data privacy breaches, CNBC reported Monday.
Mark Zuckerberg's social media empire Meta* has courted controversy before. In 2018 it emerged that data from some 50 million user accounts had been harvested and sold to UK political campaign firm Cambridge Analytica.
"The ability for data to be transferred across borders is fundamental to how the global open internet works," Meta executives said.
