Probe into sugar scam: Rizwan remains part of FIA team with drastically curtailed role

ISLAMABAD: Senior police officer Muhammad Rizwan’s role in the probe against Jahangir Tareen in relation to the mega sugar scam being carried out by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been significantly curtailed but the officer has not been removed from the team of designated investigators.
“Muhammad Rizwan continues to be part of the panel but he is no longer its chief as he had been since the investigations into the sugar scandal had started,” a senior official, privy to the development, told The News. He said that Abu Bakr Khuda Bakhsh was now the head of the sugar inquiry but Muhammad Rizwan is still a part of it. ....

Ban will pull down prices drastically, turn farmers away from producing oilseeds: Anil Ghanwat
Shetkari Sanghatana (SS), the farmers’ body in Maharashtra, has written to SEBI that it should not succumb to pressure from soyabean processors to ban futures and options trading in soyabean on NCDEX.
“The processors lobby is saying that soyabean prices have risen to ₹7,000/quintal plus due to speculation and not the demand-supply situation, and justifies the ban on futures,” said SS President Anil Ghanwat in a press statement. He added that a ban on futures trading of soyabean will pull down the prices drastically. This will turn farmers away from producing oilseeds in future, said Ghanwat. ....

Doha: The number of road accident deaths in 2020 has come down compared to 2019. According to the General Directorate of Traffic statistics for 2020, the number of road accidents deaths were 138 cases (in 2020) compared to 154 the year earlier.
The General Directorate of Traffic at a press conference held yesterday at its headquarters clarified that out of the total 138 deaths, 69 were motorists, 26 passengers and 43 pedestrians.

Number of people adhering to COVID-19 norms has fallen drastically, says survey


Poor enforcement by local authorities, low case load cited as reasons
Amid a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases, only 30% of the people in the country are complying with the norm of wearing masks and only 12% are observing distancing norms, a survey that covered 8,000 respondents has found.
The respondents said with a fall in cases in tier 2, 3 and 4 towns and rural areas and with social events being permitted, people believed that there was no need to fear. Also, the survey found that in metropolitan cities and tier 1 and 2 districts, the compliance was better.
LocalCircles, which conducted the survey, said it had received reports from citizens about non-compliance with the wearing of masks and the lack of physical distance in public and private events and markets. ....
