Tigers Finish Ninth at Watersound Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. Andrew Swanson shot a final round 73 and finished with an even-par score of 216 for the 54 holes in the Watersound Invitational at Sharks Tooth Golf Club in Panama City, Fla. The Tigers finished ninth in the 11-team field that included six of the top 20 teams in the nation. The Tigers played without top player Kian Rose, who is recovering from a wrist injury. He has a team best 71.13 stroke average this season. Rose is expected back in the lineup at the next tournament, the Pinehurst Invitational, March 6-7. Swanson finished with rounds of 69-74-73 over the three days to finish in 28th place. He finished with a team best 13 birdies and was among the tournament leaders in par three scoring with a 2.92 figure. Clemson Ninth Entering Final Round at Watersound Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. Jonathan Nielsen shot a two-under-par 70 on Monday to lead Clemson to a 290 team score and a ninth-place standing after 36 holes of the Watersound Invitational at Sharks Tooth Golf Club in Panama City, Florida.  The 11 teams in the field will finish the 54-hole event on Tuesday.   Live scoring is available on golfstat.com.Number-one ranked Vanderbilt leads the tournament with a 552 team score through two rounds.   Georgia Tech, ranked 12th in the nation, is second at 560 and 11th-ranked Florida State, the host school, is third at 565.   Clemson is at seven-over-par 583, just two shots behind 16th-ranked Oklahoma State.Clemson improved from 293 to 290 as far as it’s team score on Monday. Clemson in Eighth Place after First Round Watersound Invitational

Andrew Swanson fired a three-under-par 69 to lead Clemson to a 293 team score and a ninth-place standing after the first round of the Watersound Invitational at Sharks Tooth Golf Club in Panama City, Fla. It was the first round of the spring season for the Clemson team.Clemson shot a five-over-par team round of 293. Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech lead the 11-team field at 279, while Alabama is in third at 282. The field includes eight of the top 40 teams and 18 of the top 100 players in the nation in the latest Golfstat rankings. While Clemson is 14 shots out of the lead, the Tigers are only seven shots out of fifth.Swanson’s round of 69 was his fourth consecutive round in the 60s, as he shot in the 60s in each round at the Ka’anapali Classic in Hawaii to close the fall season. Clemson Finishes 12th at Maui Jim Intercollegiate

CLEMSON, S.C. Senior Carter Pendley fired a career-best 65 on Sunday to lead Clemson in the final round at its season-opening Maui Jim Intercollegiate at Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.  The Tigers finished in a tie for 12th place with New Mexico in the national tournament that included 18 teams.   The field included seven top 25 teams according to Gulfweek Preseason Poll.  There were six teams from the ACC and six from the Pac 12.  Auburn won the tournament with a 45-under-par score of 795, while Arizona State was second at 800 and Florida State was third at 805.Pendley had a bogey free five-under-par 65, the first bogey free round of the year by a Tiger golfer.  He eclipsed his career best round of 66, which was set on the same course at the same tournament in rounds one and three last year.The native of Dalton, Ga. played the back nine first and made the turn at 31 shots thanks to four birdies.  Pendley was Clemson’s second best golfer for the 54 hole tournament ....

Clemson, S.C Kian Rose shot a three-under-par 67 on Saturday to remain in the top 10 after 36 holes of the Mau Jim Intercollegiate at Mirabel Country Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.  Sophomore Andrew Swanson had a career best 65 to lead the Tigers  in the second round of the 18 team tournament that features six teams from the ACC and six teams from the Pac 12.  The field includes seven teams ranked in the top 25 of the Gulfweed preseason poll.Clemson is in 14th place at seven-under-par  553  after two rounds.  The Tigers had  a team score of seven-under-par 273 on Saturday a seven-stroke improvement over Friday’s first round.  The tournament on the par 70 Mirabel course concludes on Sunday.Auburn  has the team  lead at 34-under-par, while  Arizona State is second  at 32-under-par after an outstanding 23-under-par round on Saturday.
