Dominic Raab was asked whether he agreed with Lord Dunlop’s assessment that the UK should appoint an “intergovernmental” minister who would monitor and strengthen the relationships between UK nations. Mr Raab was flippant at the report, adding that role was already being carried out by Boris Johnson and reiterated his party’s support for the UK remaining one country. The rebuttal comes as Scottish independence continues to be pushed by the SNP and Nicola Sturgeon as they threaten to hold a referendum without Westminster's approval.

Lord Dunlop spoke out as he made the case for reform of the union between the different nations of the UK. The Conservative peer was a Scottish Office minister, an adviser to David Cameron as well as being commissioned by Theresa May to undertake a key review into the future of the UK.
Lord Dunlop's review has been lying on the Prime Minister's desk waiting to be signed off, Express.co.uk understands.
A Whitehall source said last night: "The review will be very important in shaping the future of the Union."

Andrew Dunlop slammed for claim rejecting indyref2 is 'plain common sense'

Keith Brown compared Andrew Dunlop's indyref remark's to Donald Trump's refusal to accept democracy in the US
REJECTING a second Scottish independence referendum is “plain common sense” and the “responsible thing to do”, a former Scotland Office minister and sitting Tory peer has insisted.
However, the SNP said that denying the people a vote would be a “democratic outrage”, which they compared to Donald Trump’s refusal to accept the US election result.
Andrew Dunlop, who served as a UK government minister and was an adviser to David Cameron when he was prime minister, made the comments on indyref2 as he argued for reform of the Union.

Boris Johnson is a battle-hardened bruiser used to dealing knockout blows in the political arena.
The prime minister was victorious in two London mayoral elections, the Brexit vote, Tory leadership contest and a general election to boot – but a second Scottish independence referendum is not a fight he can win.
Johnson is at best not liked in Scotland, at worst… well, it’s best not to dwell.

Tory Lord urges Unionists to do more warning Scotland will become a republic

Lord Garnier said Unionists were 'failing' to make the case for the Union
A TORY peer has urged Unionists to make more of an effort as he warns that Scotland will split from the UK and become a republic.
Lord Garnier argued supporters of the four-nation alliance were allowing the SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon to “hold the floor” and so failing to make “the powerful emotional and obvious economic case for the Union”.
He dubbed the First Minister “Glasgow’s De Valera”, after the Irish leader Eamon De Valera, who was a key figure in the fight for his country’s independence.
