A draft of an already written court ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja for an ex parte application in favour of pro-Nyesom Wike’s lawmakers in Rivers State has leaked online. According to the court papers, the ruling is set to be delivered tomorrow (Monday, December 18, 2023). Justice D. U. Okorowo allegedly held a secret hearing in his chambers and delivered a judgement in favour of 27 lawmakers said to be loyal to former Rivers State governor, Wike. But Justice Okorowo has denied the allegation, saying nothing of the sort happened.

The Federal High Court in Abuja has restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from declaring the seats of 26 Rivers State House of Assembly members vacant and conducting fresh elections to fill their seats. The deposed Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Martins Amaewhule, and 25 others secured an interim order restraining INEC, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers House of Assembly, Clerk of the House and security agencies from declaring their seats and taking any action to declare the seats of the 26 plaintiffs vacant.

Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara has promised to run an inclusive government that upholds the principles of justice and fairness to everyone. The governor who broke his silence amid the political tension in the state, made this known in a video posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday.

The faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly headed by Edison Ehie and loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Wednesday morning moved the house plenary session to the Government House, Port Harcourt. This comes amid the ongoing demolition of the assembly complex by Governor Fubara’s administration. It was learnt that the 27 members of the House loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and immediate governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, were absent. The House declared the seats of 25 of them vacant.

  The five-member faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly headed by Edison Ehie and loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on Wednesday passed the 2024 budget proposal submitted by the governor. The State Executive Council, on Monday, approved the estimated budget of over N800 billion, tagged by the governor as the ‘Budget of Renewed Hope, Consolidation, and Continuity’ for the 2024 fiscal year. The faction had moved the house plenary session to the Government House, Port Harcourt.
