Farhan Mohamed Abdi, 21, was sentenced to 90 days of jail after entering an Alford guilty plea to one count of misdemeanor domestic assault. Abdi allegedly beat a woman and stole a benefits card from her outside her Spicer residence in July of 2021.
The Minnesota Court of Appeals affirmed a 68-month prison sentence for Braxton Anderson, of Montevideo, for his conviction of criminal vehicular homicide in the Aug. 6, 2019, crash that killed Brittany Lynn Schulz, 20, of Appleton.

The Renville County Board of Commissioners accepted the resignation of David Torgelson as county attorney and appointed assistant county attorney Kelsie Kingstrom to serve as county attorney for the remainder of the year. Torgelson will serve as an assistant county attorney in the office.
Due to the demands on the judicial system, County Attorney Keith Helgeson announced that he will begin his duties as the new district judge chambered in Granite Falls on Oct. 11, or immediately upon the retirement of Judge Dwayne Knutsen. He learned of his appointment to the bench just days ago.
