GAINESVILLE — It's what you expect on the hardwood in mid-January.
The battle for region tournament seeding was on full display Tuesday night as the Gainesville boys basketball team (13-6, 5-2 Region 6-7A) battled back from a 15-10 first-quarter deficit and deflected several West Forsyth's blows to escape with a 59-52 victory at home.
Robert Reisman led Gainesville with a game-high 25 points. Eli Pitts finished with 15. Russell Miller and Joe Wortman had 12 each for the Wolverines (8-10, 2-5 Region 6-7A).

GAINESVILLE — Defense was the name of the game for the Gainesville boys basketball team on Friday against Lambert.
The Red Elephants' defensive effort in the first quarter, early in the second quarter and down the stretch in the second half created enough opportunities to eventually blow past Lambert, 67-41, in a crucial Region 6-7A battle at Gainesville High Gym. The win leaves the Red Elephants (12-6, 4-2 Region 6-7A) in third place.
Robert Reisman paced Gainesville with a game-high 22 points, while Eli Pitts added 11.
But it wasn't all cherries and roses for the Red Elephants, especially late in the second quarter. After taking a 26-11 lead off a basket from Samir King, Lambert's Nick Stockton and James Tyre led the Longhorns on a 13-0 run, while frustrating Gainesville with their aggressive zone defense. The Longhorns' zone held the Red Elephants scoreless for just over four minutes in the quarter and cut the lead to 26-24 by half.
