The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office is moving forward with a new space for its Offender Diversion Unit at 37 S. Cranberry Road in Westminster. Commissioners unanimously approved the transfer of $225,000 from the fiscal 2023 contingency fund budget to pay for the new space.

The new Charles Carroll Community Center in Westminster will be on the site of former Charles Carroll Elementary School and will have a full-size gym for basketball, volleyball and pickle ball, two multipurpose rooms and a technology room with Wi-Fi.

The workshop will be held at 5 p.m., Tuesday, at the Mount Airy Town Hall, 110 South Main St., in the council chambers. The meeting is open to residents, however, no public comment will be allowed. Mount Airy Mayor Larry Hushour said discussion will focus on “plausible ways to either restore the building in place, or move the building slightly south and east to a new footprint.” There is no vote planned.

White’s Bicycles and its owner, Bradley White, were fixtures on Westminster’s Main Street the last four decades. White, 55, who died after a Monday fire at his shop, was a well-loved community member with a heart of gold, friends said.
