Environment Canada initially issued the warning at around 5:30 p.m., saying meteorologists in Ontario were tracking a thunderstorm that had the potential to produce a tornado.
A summer storm passed through Calgary on Thursday evening resulting in some streets and underpasses being flooded while downed power lines were seen in other areas.
“Air quality ranges from poor to dangerous and for a time on Wednesday, Toronto was the most polluted major city in the world,” Global News meteorologist Anthony Farnell said.
According to an alert from Environment Canada, meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing strong winds, pea to dime size hail and torrential rain.
“Air quality ranges from poor to dangerous and for a time on Wednesday, Toronto was the most polluted major city in the world,” Global News meteorologist Anthony Farnell said.
