British actor Bernard Hill, best known for his roles in Titanic and Lord of the Rings, has died aged 79.   His agent Lou Coulson confirmed his death to British media organisations on Sunday.   The actor played Captain Edward Smith in the 1997 Oscar-winning film directed by James Cameron and King Théoden in Lord of the Rings (a trilogy).   He played Yosser Hughes character in the BBC TV drama Boys from the Blackstuff.   He died early on Sunday morning.

In Lord of the Rings, the British actor played Théoden, King of Rohan and in Titanic, he went down with the ship as captain Captain Edward Smith.
