COVID-19 vaccine: Jacksonville's Edward Waters College to offer shots


Edwards Waters College will be Jacksonville s latest vaccination site as the state looks forward to expanding the pool of people who can get the COVID-19 vaccine in the coming weeks, Gov. Ron DeSantis said Thursday.
DeSantis said during a stop at Edward Waters College the Seniors First approach to vaccines could soon widen by adding classroom teachers and law enforcement who are 50 and older.
Stay tuned for that announcement next week, he said.
He said he expects that sometime in March, the state will lower the current age of 65 and older for the general public to be eligible for the vaccinations. He said the timing of that expansion will hinge on progress in vaccinating seniors and the supply of vaccine doses coming to Florida. ....

Charles Albert sat on the City Commission for eighteen years and served as Mayor in 1978.
NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – The Honorable Charles L. Albert, Fernandina’s first and only African American mayor, passed away on Sunday. He was 88.
Mr. Albert sat on the City Commission for 18 years and served as mayor in 1978. He was also a former teacher.
Flags at city facilities in Fernandina Beach were lowered to half-staff and will remain that way until 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb 3.
“This will provide an opportunity for Mayor Albert to be formerly honored and remembered at the Feb. 2 City Commission meeting,” the City of Fernandina Beach said. ....
