LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The city s five mobile coronavirus testing teams will deploy to locations in predominantly Black and Latino communities in the East San Fernando Valley and South Los Angeles beginning today and lasting throughout the week, in areas where COVID-19 infections nearly doubled in early December.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti on Tuesday dispatched five mobile coronavirus testing teams to predominantly Black and Latino communities in the east San Fernando Valley and South Los Angeles, where infections nearly doubled in early December.
“Angelenos must remain vigilant in the face of this surge,” Garcetti said in a statement, pointing to an explosion of cases across L.A. County and beyond in recent weeks.
As of Monday, L.A. County was averaging nearly 10,700 new coronavirus cases a day over the last week and 58 new COVID-19 deaths a day both at or near records.
Communities where the mobile units are headed have seen particularly dramatic increases relative to their population, according to the mayor’s office, which said it relies on county data to spot trends. ....

LA’s Mobile COVID-19 Testing Units To Target High-Risk Areas This Week

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) Los Angeles will deploy its five mobile coronavirus testing teams to locations in predominantly Black and Latino communities in the East San Fernando Valley and South Los Angeles where COVID-19 infections nearly doubled in early December.
The teams will be in the areas starting Tuesday and stay there through the end of the week.
The city’s mobile testing program, which launched in April, can test more than 1,000 people per day, with or without an appointment.
The East Valley accounted for 26% of all new cases citywide for the week ending December 4, and South L.A. comprised 19%, officials said. The numbers exceed the areas’ share of the general population. ....

The Mayor s Office utilizes countywide case data to spot changes in infection trends across 139 neighborhoods in the city. These figures inform the deployment of mobile testing units and the identification of locations for new permanent testing sites.
The city s mobile testing program was launched in April. Each mobile team, composed of members of the Los Angeles Fire Department and Community Organized Relief Effort, can test more than 1,000 people per day, with or without an appointment.
