Greece and Israel have reportedly signed a historic 20-year contract worth 1.65 billion USD for the construction and operation of a new academy for the former s Hellenic Air Force (HAF), according to an Israeli defense ministry announcement that was reported by Reuters.
The agreement comes after major Israel-based contractor Elbit Systems submitted a winning bid in an international tender for the new academy and air force training center, which came in early January.
The agreement is the biggest ever deal between Greece and Israel in the defense sector. ....

J-MUSIC extends to ninth NATO MRTT aircraft - Digital Battlespace

Israeli-made missile protection system will be installed on the latest Airbus A330 tanker/transport aircraft ordered by NATO.
The ninth NATO-owned Airbus A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft will be equipped with the J- MUSIC Directional Infrared Countermeasures (DIRCM) missile-protection system from Elbit Systems, the Israeli company announced on 13 April.
Elbit will supplement J-MUSIC on the latest A330 MRTT with its Passive Airborne Warning System infrared missile detection and warning system.
The ninth aircraft was ordered in September 2020. Elbit was awarded the original contract in December 2017 to provide J-MUSIC to the NATO MRTT fleet. ....

Iron Sting: Israelis Will Demo Smart Mortar For US

TEL AVIV: On March 14
th, the Israeli army and contractor Elbit unveiled a new precision-guided 120 mm mortar shell which will enter IDF service in months – and which, confidential sources say, will be demonstrated for the US Army by the end of the year.
The US could easily adopt the Israeli shell because it uses the same caliber of mortar, 120 mm, on special fire-support variants of its 8×8 Stryker (which may also get an Israeli anti-missile system) and the tracked Armored Multi-Purpose Vehicle (AMPV). What’s more, the US Army has been looking to upgrade its mortars for some time, including a field-test of a computerized 81 mm mortar called ADIM (Automated Direct/Indirect-fire Mortar) in Germany in 2018. It’s already developed some advanced aiming systems for existing mortars but Iron Sting goes further. ....

THEL – the Tactical High-Energy Laser – was the last big US-Israel laser project, cancelled in 2005.
TEL AVIV: The Israeli Defense Ministry is seeking US funding and expertise for its air and missile defense lasers, especially in the generation of electrical power. Israel’s current prototypes have achieved an output beam of “almost” 100 kilowatts, but the US is already exploring 300-kW weapons capable of killing cruise missiles.
Tel Aviv soured on missile defense lasers after the US-Israeli Nautilus project, also known as the Tactical High Energy Laser (THEL), a bulky weapon which was cancelled in 2005 after a decade in development. But THEL – like its contemporary, the US Airborne Laser – was what’s called a chemical laser, needing large tanks of toxic chemicals to generate power. Modern lasers rely on electrical generators, making them much less hazardous. ....
