The owner of a Washington dam company pleaded guilty to using old field turf for a construction project. The turf ripped which polluted a river with synthetic material.
If approved by the judge, the Attorney General’s Office believes the $1 million would be the largest fine and restitution paid for an environmental crime in Washington state law history.
But the Puyallup Tribe of Indians blasted the plea deal, calling it "a mere operating expense" for the company.
