The DA congratulates George Municipality for being the first municipality in South Africa, outside the metro, to pilot the online application platform for small-scale embedded electricity generation (SSEG). The SSEG pilot project not only modernizes the SSEG application process but also, more importantly, the approval process to generate electricity in residential, commercial or industrial areas. The pilot project also signifies a notable step towards encouraging municipalities to become independent from Eskom and thereby curb loadshedding.

The George municipality is taking an innovative approach to tackling common issues such as unemployment and load-shedding through “speed-dating” and the installation of uninterrupted power supply units.
