The 30-year-old persuaded some customers to pay money directly into his bank account so that they could be offered a staff discount and on other occasions made dodgy refunds to himself. A THIEVING Royal Mail postman who stole cash and gift cards from postal packets for almost a decade has been jailed. Disgraced Michael Sullivan was caught red-handed after his employer planted decoy packets with GPS tracking devices which were later found in the postman’s pocket. The 54-year-old father-of-one told police he could not recall how many packets he had stolen but at a guess would estimate 1,000. Before I proceed with some comments on the nine winning tales in this volume, a quick word on the author herself. D. K. (Dorothy Kathleen) Broster was born in Liverpool in 1877, and would go on to become a nurse during WW1 and to receive, at the age of 43, a Master of Arts degree at Oxford; one of the first women to do so. She is today primarily remembered as the author of some 15 historical novels and two collections of short stories, of which this volume was the second.
